Twitter Accounts At Risk: Users Must Reauthenticate Before November 10 As Platform Moves To X.com

Elon Musk, owner of X (formerly Twitter), has announced the final phase of transitioning from Twitter to X, marking the end of the platform’s association with the iconic blue bird. This change involves a complete migration of user authentication systems from twitter.com to x.com, effectively retiring the old domain in November.

According to the platform’s official Security account, all users with two-factor authentication (2FA)—including passkeys or physical security keys—must re-register their credentials by November 10 to ensure that their authentication methods are properly linked to the new domain. Users who fail to complete this process by the deadline risk temporarily losing access to their accounts until they update their authentication method, select an alternative 2FA option, or disable two-factor authentication altogether.

X has emphasized that this is purely a technical migration and not related to any data breach or privacy issue. The company explained that the shift is necessary to fully consolidate operations under x.com, aligning the login systems and domain infrastructure with the platform’s rebranding and long-term vision. Authentication apps will continue to function as usual, and no changes are expected for those who use them as their main login method.

However, the discontinuation of the twitter.com domain may cause a range of disruptions. Old links, embedded content, and automated services that still reference the previous domain could stop working or lead to errors. Developers and content creators who rely on older integrations may need to update their systems to maintain functionality.

This move is part of Musk’s broader strategy to reshape Twitter into X—a platform designed to go beyond social networking, integrating messaging, video, payments, and other digital services under one ecosystem. While the rebranding began in 2023, the migration of authentication and core infrastructure to x.com marks one of the final technical steps in completing the transformation.
