A recurring trend in streaming last year was unfortunately price hikes, and as streaming costs continue to rise, free ad-supported TV is more popular than ever. FAST services like The Roku Channel, Pluto TV, Google TV Freeplay, and MyFree DirecTV now offer hundreds of free channels, so if you want to relax and watch TV without swiping your credit card, it’s much easier. That said, one free service I often feel doesn’t get enough attention is Plex.
While many people know Plex as a tool for hosting and streaming personal media, it’s quietly grown into a full-fledged streaming platform. Alongside movies and shows you can rent or buy, Plex also offers a massive free live TV lineup, with more than 600 channels available at no cost.
To kick off 2026, Plex is expanding that lineup even further by adding three new 24/7 channels (via Cord Cutter News). The biggest addition is Murdoch Mysteries, a long-running Canadian detective series set in 1890s Toronto that has earned widespread acclaim across 19 seasons and more than 300 episodes.
Plex is also rolling out a 24/7 channel for Prime Suspect, the award-winning British crime drama from the 1990s and early 2000s starring Oscar winner Helen Mirren, along with a 24/7 channel for Victory!, a Brazilian telenovela (soap opera) that debuted in 2014 and follows a wealthy ranch owner seeking revenge.
All three channels are available now on Plex, so if you’re looking for something new to watch this weekend without spending a dime, these might be worth checking out. The Plex app is available for free on many devices, including Roku, Fire TV, Google TV, Samsung, LG, Xbox, PlayStation, and more. If you want to watch on the go, it’s available on both Android and iOS.

There’s a lot more to check out on Plex
Plex launched its free live TV channels back in 2020, and now has over 600
Beyond the three new channels Plex just added, there’s plenty more to watch. Plex says it now offers more than 600 free live TV channels, putting it right up there with heavyweights like Roku and Pluto TV in terms of sheer content. Plex launched its free live TV offering back in 2020, so it’s been around for a while now.
Watching Plex’s free live TV is easy. You can download the Plex app, as mentioned earlier, or head to its website and start watching right away. You don’t even need to sign up for an account to access the free channels either. Just keep in mind that Plex’s free channel lineup varies by country, so what’s available will depend on where you live.
Some of my favorite free channels on Plex include Top Gear UK, a 24/7 stream of the iconic British car show starring Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May, as well as sports content like the NFL Channel and CBS Sports HQ.
In 2025, just about every major streaming service raised prices — including YouTube TV, Apple TV, Netflix, HBO Max, Disney+, and Peacock. At the same time, free platforms like Roku, Pluto TV, and Plex continued to add more free channels. If you’re looking to cut down on your streaming bill, swapping in a FAST service is worth considering. And if you’ve never tried one before, there’s really no downside to giving one a try — it’s free, after all, so I recommend seeing what’s out there.
