iPhone 17, 17 Air And 17 Pro: A19 Chip, 120Hz Display, And Improved Cameras

Apple has unveiled the iPhone 17 lineup, including the base iPhone 17, iPhone Air, and the flagships iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max, focusing on performance, display enhancements, camera improvements, and refined design. The devices were announced during Apple’s “Awe Dropping” event on September 9, 2025, with preorders beginning September 12 and general availability on September 19. All models ship with iOS 26, which introduces features such as the “Liquid Glass” design, call screening, live translation, and a redesigned Games app.

The iPhone 17 represents a significant upgrade for the standard model, which previously received fewer high-end features. It now includes the A19 chip, previously exclusive to Pro devices, offering faster multitasking and improved energy efficiency. Memory remains at 8 GB, which may limit heavy multitasking compared to the Pro models’ 12 GB.

The device also introduces a 120Hz OLED ProMotion display, thinner bezels, and enhanced scrolling and animation smoothness. The front-facing TrueDepth camera has been upgraded to 24 megapixels, supporting better portrait photos, 2x zoom cropping, and higher-quality video calls.

The iPhone Air is the thinnest model in the range at just 5.6mm, constructed from titanium and Ceramic Shield 2, offering superior scratch resistance and durability. Despite its slim profile, it features a 6.5-inch OLED display with adaptive 120Hz refresh rate and peak brightness of 3,000 nits. The device is powered by the A19 Pro chip, delivering flagship-level performance, including a five-core GPU with advanced neural accelerators.

Apple released different accessories for the iPhone 17 Air, including the nostalgic Bumpers.

The MagSafe Powerbank also made a comeback, promising up to 40 hours of video playback on the iPhone 17 Air.

Its rear camera is a single 48-megapixel Fusion Wide sensor, while computational photography simulates a 2x optical zoom. The front TrueDepth camera is 18 megapixels and supports Center Stage and dynamic reframing. The Air supports all-day battery life, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, Thread, and uses an eSIM-only design for space efficiency.

The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max feature a unibody frame, vapor chamber cooling, and the A19 Pro processor, maximizing performance and thermal efficiency. Camera improvements include a redesigned top-bar arrangement for the LiDAR sensor and flash. These models continue to prioritize premium photography, battery life, and advanced Apple Intelligence features.

Across the lineup, Apple emphasizes integration with its ecosystem, ensuring tight synergy between hardware, software, and services. The new devices combine performance upgrades, advanced displays, improved cameras, and enhanced durability to cater to different user preferences, from the cost-effective iPhone 17 to the ultra-thin iPhone Air and high-performance Pro models.
