If you love chocolate, this is the cake to make. It starts with a mix, but you would never know it!
WHY YOU WILL LOVE THIS DEVIL’S FOOD CAKE
This is a really easy recipe; it starts with a cake mix, but we take it up a few levels! We add chocolate chips, and they make this cake amazing. Something about bites of chocolate chips, with the cake.. It’s really good. Then we top it with a caramel frosting, and that is incredible. It’s moist and loaded with flavor, and one bite and you are hooked!
SWAPS – PUDDING MIX
We like to make this cake with a mix that includes pudding, but last time we couldn’t find one. So we bought a package of instant chocolate pudding and added it to the mix. The mix did get a little thick, and we thought it might not work, but it did, and we all agreed it turned out just fine. If you can’t find a mix with the pudding included that is an option.. OR.. you could just leave the pudding out, and I think this cake would still be delicious. You can make this cake in a 9X13 as well.

TIP
You don’t have to add the frosting to this recipe but we do feel it is a great addition. You could easily just dust it with powdered sugar. You could also make this cake in a 9 x 13 and pour caramel frosting over the cake but I would double the frosting recipe.

Chocolate Chip Devils Food Cake
This Devils Food Cake starts with a mix and then we add in chocolate chips and a delicious caramel frosting!
- 1 box Pillsbury Moist Supreme Devil’s Food cake mix with pudding in the mix
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1/2 cup oil I used Canola
- 4 eggs
- 1/2 cup evaporated milk
- 2 cups chocolate chips
- 1 cup nuts optional
One Minute Caramel Frosting
- 1/2 cup light brown sugar
- 1/2 cup regular sugar
- 1/4 cup evaporated milk
- 1/4 cup butter or margarine
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Empty cake mix into a large bowl, add sour cream, eggs, oil, and milk. Mix well with mixer.
Fold in chocolate chips and nuts. Spray bundt pan with cooking spray. Add cake mixture to pan.
Cook in preheated 350 degree oven for 55 – 60 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool for 10 minutes before removing from pan. Cool completely before adding caramel frosting.
One Minute Caramel Frosting Instructions
Add all ingredients except vanilla to pan and bring to a boil. Boil for one minute, remove and add vanilla extract.
Beat with a mixer for about 2 minutes and it will begin to thicken as it cools. Pour onto cake. I use a small pitcher to pour the frosting on the cake.
If it gets too hard to pour, add a little milk until you get the consistency you need.
