Turning your phone into an old school BlackBerry just got easier

Clicks, the smartphone peripheral company known for its line of physical keyboard case accessories, is entering the New Year with a bang. To kick off the 2026 calendar year, the company has officially announced two major new products in the form of the Clicks Power Keyboard and the Clicks Communicator.

In a freshly uploaded YouTube video, the Clicks team showcases both new gadgets in action, with insights from co-founders Michael Fisher, Jeff Gadway, and Kevin Michaluk (the latter two of whom are CMO and President of the company, respectively). Co-founder and CEO Adrian Li Mow Ching also makes an appearance near the end of this introduction video, relaying personal anecdotes relating to the Clicks brand more broadly.

“It’s never just been about keyboards. At a time when tech seems to feed distraction and doom scrolling, Clicks is taking a stand for action and doing,” says Ching in the promotional video. “We’re building a team with a passion for purpose-built tech designed for doers, not doom scrollers. What we’ve shared today is a product strategy that’ll guide us into the future.”

With both the Power Keyboard and the Communicator, Clicks is pitching a tech ecosystem that melds together the retro-futurism of physical mobile keyboards with the desire for digital minimalism and detoxification, all of which is purpose-built for communicating without all the extra noise. The Power Keyboard appears to solve the non-universality of previous Clicks Keyboard Cases, while the Communicator is a stand-alone product designed as a secondary smartphone companion gadget.

Universality, magnetism, and packed with power

Unlike existing Clicks keyboard cases, where each model is molded to fit a specific phone chassis, the $109 USD / $150 CAD Power Keyboard is a universal accessory that works with all MagSafe and Qi 2.2 smartphones, in addition to other smart devices that feature Bluetooth connectivity. Rather than relying on USB-C for power and bandwidth, this new product connects wirelessly and relies on inductive charging and magnets to adhere and to interface with your mobile gadgets.

In a homage to slider-style keyboard smartphones like the BlackBerry Torch and the Palm Pre, the Clicks Power Keyboard features a sliding mechanism that allows you to hide the keyboard when not in use. There are two separate ‘open’ states for accommodating phones of different sizes, and the magnetic nature of its mounting system allows for horizontal usage à la the LG Wing.

As an added bonus, the Clicks Power Keyboard doubles as a portable external power bank, letting you top up on battery life during use, and adding the flexibility to type on the keyboard remotely via its triple Bluetooth pairing system. This latter capability is useful in that it lets you connect the pocketable keyboard to multiple other smart devices like TV set-top boxes and XR gadgets for convenient physical keypressing.

The Clicks Power Keyboard is available now for pre-order in both the US and Canada, with shipping expected to begin in the Spring. For a limited time only, customers who pre-order the product can do so for a discounted price of $80 USD / $111 CAD. At launch, the peripheral is available in a single onyx (black) colorway.

In a surprise move, Clicks also announced the $500 USD Communicator, a full-fledged smartphone-like device which the company describes as being “a new kind of mobile communicator.” Similar in visual style to the iconic BlackBerry Bold line of yore, the Communicator features a dedicated front-facing physical keyboard, a 4.03-inch AMOLED display panel with a shorter-than-usual aspect ratio, a 50-megapixel rear-facing camera, and a 24-megapixel front-facing shooter, and a dedicated (and reprogrammable) Clicks Key for launching custom shortcut actions.

While it’s unknown which processor will be powering the Communicator, we do know that it’ll ship with 256GB of internal storage, and that it’ll contain a 4,000 mAh silicon-carbon battery. Other key specs include Qi2 wireless charging support, a USB-C charging port, NFC, and swappable backplates. In addition to having both eSIM and NanoSIM compatibility, the handset also features several throwback niceties, like expandable MicroSD card support, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and an alert slider switch.

Most interestingly of all, the phone ships with a bespoke Android home screen setup designed in collaboration with the Niagara Launcher team.

Similar to certain later-era BlackBerry handsets like the Priv and the Key line, the Clicks Communicator features a capacitive fingerprint sensor embedded into its space bar key, and the entire keyboard section doubles as a touch-sensitive trackpad for swiping across the user interface. Uniquely, a Signal LED ring light is built into the power key of the Communicator, with customizable color options that can be programmed for different contacts or application notifications. These lights can be turned off with the flick of the aforementioned alert toggle.

Speaking of software, the Communicator runs Android 16 out of the box, complete with native support for Google’s Strongbox secure storage API. Most interestingly of all, the phone ships with a bespoke Android home screen setup designed in collaboration with the Niagara Launcher team. This launcher places messages front and center, rather than relying on the more typical grid of icons found on most modern smartphone launchers.

The Clicks Communicator is available now through a priority access reservation system in the US, with options to either pay a $200 USD reservation deposit, or to pay the full cost while receiving a bonus of two free back covers (a $100 USD value). Reservations made before February 27 qualify for a locked early bird price of $400 USD. An exact release date hasn’t been specified as yet, and final colorway options are still unconfirmed.
